ISLAND HOPPING by FERRY in the CARIBBEAN
A great way, and quite often the only way, to travel between Caribbean islands is by passenger ferry or interisland car barge. It is also one of the most enjoyable methods of Caribbean travel.
TIPS:
Carry a valid passport, often a new island represents a new country requiring you to pass through customs/immigration.
Plan for departure taxes that are often required when leaving island.
Schedules & Rates change often in the islands ~ No matter how reliable your web resource intends to be you should always personally contact the ferry services before relying on schedules or rates listed on non-official sites.
Always check to see if you need advance reservations for day trips especially if you are doing guided tours.
Local Islanders also love to participate in inter-island visits . On the weekends the ferries may become quite crowded.
Many ferries do not run every day, make note of the schedules and remember to check the time of the last ferry run of the day.
Check for llimitations on the amount of luggage you can bring on board.
