ARUBA To Top

It is mandatory to first be legally married in the US and have a US marriage license. For a Jewish marriage you must have verification of Judaism from rabbi at home and petition to the Aruba Jewish Community. For Catholic marriages you must have a marriage permit from priest at home, baptism certificate and official form stating neither party was ever married in a church.

      • An application for the marriage license must be made at the Registrar General's Office located down town Nassau (Mon-Fri: 9:30 -4:30).
      • Cost: Marriage license fee is $100.00
      • No blood tests are required

      • A Bahamas Government Immigration entry card.
      • If either party has been married before, a certified court issued copy of the Divorce Decree (with the court's raised seal)

BRITISH VIRGIN ISLANDS To Top
      • Waiting period: 3 business days.
      • Apply for the license at the Attorney General's office in Tortola upon arrival, surrender passports, certified divorce papers (if applicable) and pay stamp fees. The Registrar will return passports and papers with the Wedding Certificate at the ceremony. Arrange for a Minister to perform the ceremony if needed.
      • Make an appointment for the ceremony with the Registrar's Office. ($100 application fee.)
      • Purchase B.V.I. stamps at the Post Office ( $110 fee at the Attorney General's Office)
      • Passport or birth certificate and photo ID.

In Mexico a religious ceremony does not have any legal validity, you need therefore to have a civil ceremony performed by a Judge of the Registry in order to obtain your Marriage License.

CAYMAN ISLANDS To Top
      • Waiting period: none
      • Cost: nonresident marriage license, including stamp duty, is $200 US (or CI$160 in Cayman Islands Dollars)
      • Both parties must sign the Marriage License Application form. The License can be obtained from the Chief Secretary's Office in Georgetown on the same day of application.
      • The Cayman Islands international embarkation/disembarkation card showing proof of entry. (Visitors arriving by air receive this from Immigration upon arrival into the Cayman Islands. Cruise ship passengers may present their Sail and Sign Card to show they are legally in port.)
      • Valid passports or certified copies of birth certificates along with photo identification.
      • Legal age: 18 years
      • In the case of previously married individuals, original or certified copies of the divorce decree or death certificate (if spouse has died) These may be faxed in advance, but you will still need to bring the original or certified copies with you.

DOMINICAN REPUBLIC To Top
      • Cost: About RD$50 for the registration by The Oficialia del Estado Civil.
      • A marriage license is not required.
      • Write to the American Consulate in Santo Domingo requesting permission to marry.
      • Submit the paperwork before the Oficialía del Estado Civil for the preparation of your marriage certificate.(You may send photocopies in advance and bring the original with you)
      • Passport and birth certificate
      • Single status affidavit translated by an official translator into Spanish
      • Divorce certificate translated into Spanish by an official translator, if applicable
      • Legal transcripts of the birth certificates, single status affidavit and divorce act need to be prepared at the Dominican consulate in the country where the documents were issued.
      • Parental consent is required in the form of an affidavit stamped by the Notary Public If either the bride or groom is under 18 years
      • Witnesses: 2
      • If the witnesses are foreigners, they will need to have passports as identification. If they are Dominicans, "cedulas" are sufficient.

Special Divorce Law: People who have been divorced in the DR under the Special Divorces Law need to wait 24 hours prior to getting married.

After: After the marriage you will be given a document that proves the wedding took place. You then need to request a marriage certificate from the “Oficial de Estado Civil” (City Clerk) that married you. The document issued by “Oficial de Estado Civil” (City Clerk) is a valid marriage certificate.

Option: Validate at your Consulate if you are considering a name change or applying for a visa for one of the spouses . This process could take a month.

It is possible to be married on the fifth day after arriving in St. Lucia, if the correct procedures are followed (2 working days residency and 2 working days to process). Church weddings can be arranged for most denominations in advance. Application to be married in St. Lucia must be made by a local solicitor to the Attorney General, who will issue the marriage license.

One of the party must be a resident. Non residents wishing to get married in St. Maarten can request permission from the Lt. Governor of the Island Territory of St. Maarten. If permission is granted a temporary tourist permit will be issued in order to contract a marriage. A written request must be submitted to the attention of the Lt. Governor; this can be send to: Lt.
