Intimacy with nature no longer means primitive camping or inconvenience.

Maho Bay Camps, Harmony Studios, Estate Concordia
and the Concordia Eco-Tents are all built on the concept "creature comforts for all creatures". Built with site-sensitive techniques that preserve, protect, and even enhance the fragile eco-system of the Virgin Island of St. John these sister resorts are world reknowned successful examples of ecotourism destinations. [Work Exchange & Job Opportunities]

Each of these four sister resort facilities - Maho Bay Camps, Estate Concordia Studios and Concordia Eco-tents - in the Maho Bay family on St. John has its own comfort level, and range from basic to quite luxurious.

Maho Bay Camps: These roomy tent-cottages are nearly hidden by lush foliage providing privacy. Cabins are set up with living and sleeping areas, a private deck, electric outlets, lights and fans and all essential living conveniences, from towels and sheets to cooking/eating utensils and coolers, are provided.

Harmony Studios caters to people who want very comfortable, private accommodations with appropriate sensitivity to this diverse tropical environment. Harmony Studios provide more creature comforts than the Maho Bay Camps including larger rooms and private bathrooms. You can choose between the Bedroom Studios and the Living Room Studios

Concordia Eco-Tents: These Eco-Tents are found on the southeastern side of St. John, set on the hillside overlooking Salt Pond and Rams Head where you can view both the Atlantic and the Caribbean Sea in one glance. This dramatically set facility is more remote and provides more creature comforts and conveniences than the Maho Bay Camps Tent-cottages. Each unit features private toilets, showers, solar energy, and more elaborate kitchen facilities.

Estate Concordia: The Concordia Estate consists of nine spacious dwellings overlooking Salt Pond and Rams Head on the more secluded southeastern shore of St. John. The Concordia Studios feature a freshwater, hillside swimming pool, large open-air rooms and fully equipped kitchens. You can choose between a full or partial ocean view studio and a full ocean view loft duplex.

The outdoor restaurant pavilion serves an a la carte breakfast from 7:30 am to 9:30 am and then dinner from 5:30 pm until 7:30 pm. COOPER ISLAND ~ BRITISH VIRGIN ISLANDS ~ ECO LIVING

Cooper Island Beach Club: This is not camping but it is visiting the Caribbean in an eco friendly way. There is no public electric supply on Cooper Island, the lighting and ceiling fans in the rooms are all powered by 12 Volt DC. (There is one 110 Volt outlet in each room which can be used to recharge batteries during the evening hours when their generator runs.) As in much of the Virgin Island rain water is collected and stored in cisterns. Water for showers is solar heated and the toilets are flushed with sea water.

There are no roads (thus no cars), no movie houses or shopping malls. The beaches however are beautiful, the diving extra-ordinary, the hiking not too strenuous, the bar is friendly and the dining is relaxing, delicious and reasonable. The dive shop has a full range of snorkeling and SCUBA equipment for sale or rent, an air fill station and they can offer you PADI basic or advanced SCUBA instruction.

Cooper Island is 1.5 miles long and .5 miles wide. It is located 5 miles south of Tortola which is 60 miles east of Puerto Rico. It is accessed by ferry from Tortola.

Their reasonable prices are even more reasonable in the slow season. Packages with dining and/or scuba activities included are available. See you there! [Work Opportunities]

JOST VAN DYKE ~ BRITISH VIRGIN ISLANDS ~ CAMPING & ECO-LIVING
IVAN'S CAMPGROUND

Ivan's Campground and Stress-Free Bar is on the beach, shaded by Tamarind trees, in White Bay, Jost Van Dyke, in the British Virgin Islands. Campsites, bare sites, and very simple cabins are available. The community kitchen has a fridge, coffee maker and cooking utensils; and there are two bathrooms with showers. In the evening there is often music, either open mike or a jam, often with well known visiting musicians. This is without a doubt a favorite get-away!
